Is it really affected by adding those additional pounds to a well built bike such as a Harley that weighs 700-800 lbs. as far as the power of the bike??
I'm serious so please no more nasty, childish remarks.
BTW, I'm the passenger & have been told I make a hell of a backrest!!

An additional weight of 150lbs is a weight increase of about 20% on such a heavy bike and it is off course going to have an impact on the speed, center of gravity, air resistance etc. as well as other points such as headlamp beam will be too high, tire pressure needs adjustment, gas milage decrease etc.
How much is the 150 lbs going to affect acceleration and top speed? You will have to try this out for real – you will be surprized to see how little impact it really has – but if you are a HD lover like myself it is not about either of these factors.
I enjoy having company on my Softail.

If you feel the need for speed – do not buy a hog.

Is there any electric moped/bike/scooter that meets the specifications?

    Seats: 2 people
    Max Load: 250-300lbs
Speed: Less than or equal to 35mph. (don't want to go that fast, but enough so that 2 people won't make it go that slow)
    Range: 30-40 miles
Charge time: Less than 10 hours.
    -Price: Less than $2500.

Btw, I have done alot of research etc so I'm not just being lazy. I just can't find the right one :(

    Thank you :D
Also, I've heard that X-Treme wasn't that great, so if I can I'd like to stay away from that company.

    Thanks again.
    BladeGirl:

The Commander SHO sounds good, but how much is it? I couldn't seem to find the price anywhere. I went to the my local dealer in Florida but they do not have the Commander SHO listed as a product. And how would 250lbs affect the range and mph?

    Thanks.

Veloteq makes one that meets all of your requirements:

    http://veloteq.com/veloteqgallery.com/news.htm
    http://veloteq.com/veloteqgallery.com/commuter.htm
    http://veloteq.com/veloteqgallery.com/challenger.htm

the Commander SHO has seating large enough
to comfortably carry two people. The Commuter and Challenger could, if the passenger is small and lighter in weight.

They have a top speed of about 27 mph.

I do NOT work for them or a distributor, but I too did a lot of research looking for an electric scooter that could carry two people for under $2000. These all fit the bill, but I wanted one with a top speed of 40 mph. I did get to see them in person and they were pretty neat. If you live in the Boston area, a local dealer where you can go see them is

    good luck!

thinking about starting up a company selling electric powered bikes for on and off road what do you think??

I bought an electric bicycle recently and really like it. I got this one made by Currie Tech. called the E-Zip Mountain Trailz bike:

    http://www.currietech.com/html/07_ezip_main_prod.html

It only cost me $350 and it performs quite well. I generally go 16-17 mph (average about 15.5 mph including stops) whereas with my old road/mountain hybrid bike I'd only average 13.5 mph over my 13 mile commute to/from work. I got the bike to make the commute quicker (down from about 60 minutes to 50) and easier (electric motor assist makes it much less tiring). I've found that most electric bikes cost at least $500, and kits to convert a regular bike to electric are on the order of $300, so the E-Zip was an awesome deal.

An argument can be made that electric bikes actually reduce greenhouse gas emissions when compared to regular bikes. This is because you burn more calories on a regular bike, and producing and transporting the food to replace those calories has a greenhouse gas emission impact along with it. That's something you might want to examine as a potential marketing point.

The point that avid cyclists can go fast enough that electric bikes are of no use to them is a valid one. I get passed up by those hardcore guys with the multi-thousand dollar bikes and spandex and all that, but I go faster than the non-hardcore bikers and have an easier time of it. It's a very good commute option.

As for electric scooters, the only downside as has been mentioned is speed and range due to battery restrictions. Battery technology is rapidly advancing though, making them more appealing. Again, they're a good option for around town commuting. If you just need to make a quick trip to the store, why bother burning gas when you can just hop on your electric scooter? Again it's a great option for commuting too.

Good luck if you decide to start up this company. We need more like it! I couldn't find anybody selling electric bikes in my area and had to go online to buy one without having the option of trying it out beforehand.

    Tracking device for bicycle?
I am planning on purchasing a motorized bicycle (not a moped or scooter, a regular bike with a little engine attached, one of these: http://www.motoredbikes.com/gallery/my/i…

The problem is that I live in a very high bike theft area and I am really worried about it getting stolen, esspecially with the fancy engine and all. I have already lost two bikes worth nowhere near as much as this one will be.

The best idea I've heard so far is to buy one of those disposable cell phones with GPS and hide it somewhere on the bike so if it's stolen I can track it on the internet.

Any ideas for how I could securely hide the phone without the theif finding it right away?

Other ideas besides tracking? (I do plan on using two kryptonite u locks as well)

Is there any way to secure the engine from being started, or stolen off the bike, for that matter?
The photo link didn't work, try this one!
    http://www.kulukin.com/bikes/index_files/IMG_3070.JPG
I will have to park it outside sometimes. I will be parking it by the bart (bay area's subway thing) and it will sometimes need to be parked out overnight. I will basically be using it like a car, so I can't keep it at home ALL the time (what would be the point of driving it then?)

Also, it's waaay cheaper then a moped and requires no special liscense. It only hits 30mph so I feel safe on it.

Tracking, Kryptonite locks and "fancy engine and all" How much are you spending on this bike ?
Why dont you just buy a real motorcycle ?

maddog i nearly p***ed myself laughing at your answer !

I have lost my license for life, due to a pass alcoholic life style. I have been alcohol free since Feb.7,1994,but the presant laws will not allow me to even obtain a hardship permitt. Here in south Fla. It's almost imposible to get by without trasportation . I became dissabled due to cancer in 1997, I recieve a small check from S.S.D. & have limited funds . This is why I'm trying to find a used electric bicycle , You are not required to have a drivers license on an electric bike. Could any one help me with this matter.

Well, for used (and even new) equipment, there's nothing like E-bay.

But what I've frequently found is that the people selling things on E-bay originally bought the things off of Craig's list, or from a local auction. So if you pick up the classifieds in your local paper, you might be able to get it before someone else does and puts it up on E-bay.

There are most likely 2 thermal fuses in your dryer, one being a high limit fuse, which, if blown will simply keep the element from heating, the other located in the exhaust area of the unit, if blown, won't let anything run. I'd say the high limit fuse is most likely blown, and it's located at the top of the element housing with two small connectors which pull off. If you have an ohm meter, continuity tester, simply touch one lead to each tab where the connectors come off and if you get a reading, (if the needle jumps, or the tester makes a noise), then the unit is ok, if not then it's blown and open, (it should be normally closed), and needs to be replaced. If that's the problem, be sure to replace the larger thermostat located at the bottom of the heat chamber, as that's most likely no good either. After all, there has to be a reason the hi-limit thermo got blown. They generally come as a set, both to be replaced. That should give heat, which will dry your clothes and let the timer advance. Also depending on the model and age of your dryer, there may be a couple of approx. 3" long, skinny chromeish, silver looking metal bars somewhere near the front door of the unit. If you see them, take a small amount of alcohol on a cotten swab and wipe them down. Sometimes after many uses of fabric softener in the drying cycles these bars, which may also be involved in sensing moisture in the internal atmosphere of the drum, may accumulate a coating of the softener and not function as well as necessary.

For MCMD: – Of all the hundreds of Whirlpool dryers I've ever repaired, I've never seen one with more than one element, and none of them have ever been located beneath the drum.

Two large, heavy (50 lbs each) batteries were mounted on a bike to power a 1 horsepower electric motor scavenged from an old air compressor. The thing draws 20 amps at 24 volts. Don’t touch the bike frame with those leads! More to come.
