Credit Crunch and the Electric Cycle

Posted by: admin  :  Category: electric bicycles, electric bikes, electric cycle

With the on going saga of the world wide credit crunch and banks failing left, right and centre, people are looking to cut their costs down significantly. Enter in the electric cycle.

An electric cycle is about the most economical method of powered transport that you can get. The only thing left after an electric bike would be to forget the motor and just buy a normal cycle. But that takes effort. By cutting down on unnecessary car journeys you’re going to not only save a large amount of money due to less fuel usage but also from the reduced wear and tear on your vehicle. And around town that is significant.

In town you will be surpriised how much time you will save by using an electric cycle. You can get right to the front of every set of trafic lights, use cycle lanes (so long as you pedal on those) oh, and also check your own local laws about that! That time saved can be used for more worthwhile activities like drinking tea, relaxing, chatting…or even working.

The cost of running an electric cycle is so low that it’s hardly worth mentioning. It’s literally just a few pennies a day worth of electricity. And if you have a kindly employer you can save most of that by charging it up at work.

So, it makes a lot of sense to reduce or even eliminate one of the major expenses in any household; that of transportation. If you find that your car use has reduced significantly, then why not entertain the idea of getting rid of the car all together. If you work out the annual expenses of keeping a car and compare that to usuing an electric cycle and hiring a car for the times when you really need one, you may be astonished at the amount of money you will save. You will wonder why you didn’t get rid of the car ages ago.

Last, and only last as this post is about saving money, the environmental impact of an electric cycle is a very positive one. Less CO2 emmisions, less heat generated, little noise pollution, saves space, abnd that’s just to sart with. I’mn sure you can think of more.

This could be you …

Shouldnt some of us living in small towns start growing things, getting electric motor-cycles, etc?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: electric cycle

Building solar panels on the roofs, and indulging in other 'green' activities? Havent some of us suffered enough from all the pollution, clogged roads, serious traffic accidents?? Shouldnt fast and powerful 2.5litre - 5litre cars be banned???

Your kind thoughts for a better environment would be appreciated.

I agree with you , I live in a small seaside town of 1,000 people and drive a small 1600 cc car , or walk for distances under about 3 kilometres. I grow some veggies , have those low wattage light globes in my home , use minimum heating, and recycle everything possible. It is a great worry for me that my kids are going to have a badly damaged world.

I live in lincolnshire, where in my area can I get a clip on electric motor for a pedal cycle ,?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: electric cycle

To be honest they don't make clip on electric motors anymore, the easiest to fit was the Sinclair Zeta (see link below)
These were not particlarly reliable and if you used them in the wet were not much use.
A company called Heinzmann do kits but they are quite expensive & complicated to fit

15' boat-no motor - proper size outboard? 4 cycle i think? i need electric start?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: electric cycle

boat is aluminum - reliability is #1 - envirement is #2 - new? used? are the brands mostly the same? i'm using the boat on a river - not much traffic - but some barge traffic. paul in chicago

a 15ft alum boat should handle up to 40 hp or so. there should be a plate on the boat somewhere that gives both the loading and hp data. usually on the transom. a lot depends on what you plan to do with the boat and how much you wish to spend. any of the major OB manufacturers have fine products. by major i would say johnston, evenrude, mercury, honda, yamaha. any of these will give good and long service. there are others that are less common or cheaper that may work as well but they are not yet established as well yet. force, tihaso, and others. i would pick one that has a good strong local base of dealers ans servicemen in your area. 2 cyc vs 4 cyc- you pay more up front for 4 cyc and the engine is more complacated but they run cleaner and have better fuel economy and may troll better. also no oil to mix. 2 cyc are simpler and perhaps more reliable as well as cheaper to buy.
4cyc is cleaner. i have never bought a new OB and have had good luck with used so far. new is expensive- 2X good used or more. is your boat equipted with a wheel and engine controls of is it tiller drive? you may have trouble finding a used tiller control OB over 25hp but if you are not planning on long runs or heavy loads 25 may be enought. elect start is nice but it complacates things and again may be hard to find used in smaller sized motors. e-mail me with more details and perhaps i can offer better advice

my washing machine keeps cutting my electric of when it goes into spin cycle any ideas what wrong?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: electric cycle

cheers ive already changed fuse that wasnt it

Unplug it, Open door and turn inner drum by hand Listen carefully. If it sounds like rumbling, feels rough and there is any play in the drum(feels loose). the bearings are shot and the drum has hit the heater. If drum feels smooth and you hear a clicking type noise then the motor is worn and trips/fuse when under load(spin) If none of the above apply, could be a broken wire which shorts when spin starts (more movement in machine) If its a older hotpoint with 1200rpm spin then it needs a new motor.

my whirlpool electric clothes dryer ,it won't stop cycle and won't blow hot air.please help.?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: electric cycle

There are most likely 2 thermal fuses in your dryer, one being a high limit fuse, which, if blown will simply keep the element from heating, the other located in the exhaust area of the unit, if blown, won't let anything run. I'd say the high limit fuse is most likely blown, and it's located at the top of the element housing with two small connectors which pull off. If you have an ohm meter, continuity tester, simply touch one lead to each tab where the connectors come off and if you get a reading, (if the needle jumps, or the tester makes a noise), then the unit is ok, if not then it's blown and open, (it should be normally closed), and needs to be replaced. If that's the problem, be sure to replace the larger thermostat located at the bottom of the heat chamber, as that's most likely no good either. After all, there has to be a reason the hi-limit thermo got blown. They generally come as a set, both to be replaced. That should give heat, which will dry your clothes and let the timer advance. Also depending on the model and age of your dryer, there may be a couple of approx. 3" long, skinny chromeish, silver looking metal bars somewhere near the front door of the unit. If you see them, take a small amount of alcohol on a cotten swab and wipe them down. Sometimes after many uses of fabric softener in the drying cycles these bars, which may also be involved in sensing moisture in the internal atmosphere of the drum, may accumulate a coating of the softener and not function as well as necessary.

For MCMD: - Of all the hundreds of Whirlpool dryers I've ever repaired, I've never seen one with more than one element, and none of them have ever been located beneath the drum.

I have a 250 cc Honda Phamton m/cycle with electric start and cannot keep charge in batteries?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: electric cycle

I live in Thailand and have a 250 cc Honda Phamtom . I am having problems in keeping enough charge in my batteries.
I have been to many Honda dealers and all they want to do is to sell me something but are not interested in fixing the problem.
I have fitted an extra battery but this is only recieving a trickle feed from the alternator and when I use the lights of a night and stop the bike it will not restart from the electric start.
The alternator is charging between 12 and 15 amps and the voltmetre is showing between 12 and 14 volts.
Can anyone come up with a solution to this problem

There is not enough amps coming from the alternator. The voltage is fine, There should be somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 amps, get the specs from your honda dealer. you may neet to replace the alternator.
