What is an Electric Motorcycle?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: electric bicycle conversion, electric bikes, powered bike

When does an electric cycle become an electric motorcycle?

Well that all depends on who is telling you. And the reason for that is marketing. To a great extent, the definition of categories for electrical powered two wheelers is somewhat vague. Although most of us can tell whether a two wheeler is an electric scooter, an electric cycle or an electric motorcycle, the edges of each category are blurred. Manufacturers and distributors of electric two wheelers are very much aware that the product description and its styling have a big impact on how well the product sells. For this reason be sure you know what the bike is classified as if there is any doubt about it.

One of the main definitions is that an electric motorcycle will travel at speeds in excess of 30 mph. This level of speed will in most countries, mean that you will require a license to ride it. And here enters the importance of laws, regulations and insurance. It is these deciding bodies that really determine what is what. An electric motorcycle will normally not have any pedals, being completely propelled by the electric motor and it is this aspect that will mean that you will have to insure it, license it and possible even tax it.

If you have or are looking at converting an existing motorcycle to an electric one then you will need to inform the relevant offices about the change in propulsion system.

Although you will most likely experience a drop in acceleration and top end speed in an electric motorcycle as compared to its petrol engine equivalent, you will still be surprised by its performance.

Here’s a video I found that shows just how good an electric motorcycle can be…

engine powered bike trailer = moped

Posted by: admin  :  Category: powered bike

No welding required. Larger engines can be used on trailer than on bike frame. No modification of bike involved. This 3.5 hp version goes 35 mph & gets well over 120 mpg. No ill effects on handling. Comes off & on bike easily. Easiest way to power a bicycle. Curious? contact denbecr@hughes.net Also see “motor skater”, “homemade moped, front wheel drive” and “recumbent sailbike”

What is the difference in power of a 15 gear mountain bike and 24 gear mountain bike?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: powered bike

I am asking this question considering that i am going up hill. How efficient is 24 gear bike than a 15 gear bike when climbing up the hill? Can anyone give me exact amount of maximum power these both bikes give?
I am asking this question considering that i am going up hill. How efficient is 24 gear bike than a 15 gear bike when climbing up the hill? Can anyone give me exact amount of maximum power these both bikes give? By power i mean the power/torque to go up. Like a car has more power in first gear than the 4th. I basically want some statistics. otherwise i am engineer my self.

The gears of a bike are designed around the physics of ratios - like a winch would be; the longer you make the chain going round the furthest pulley against the first pulley, the higher amounts of turns the first pulley will have to travel. If the opposite is true the slower the front pulley turns and the faster the rear pulley will have to turn, but achieve greater speeds - assuming the lever is the same length but at a cost of higher effort. In this case the lever, the crank, will remain the same at every revolution. Therefore for a higher wheel speed you require the largest pulley at the front and the smallest pulley at the rear. This simplicity does not take into consideration geographical variations - like hills - wind - and rider differences - fat or thin - strong or weak.

The measurement you should be more interested in - is the amount of inches your bike can travel with one turn of the crank - and it should ROUGHLY be calculated thus:

FRONT COG / REAR COG X WHEEL DIAMETER IN INCHES.

Therefore

52 front 15 rear on a 27 inch diameter wheel gives a gear of 93 inches - or 93 inches of travel for one turn of the crank.

and 42 front and 23 rear gives a gear of 49 inches

Power is something entirely different.

What is a good pocket bike that will not break your bank account?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: powered bike

I am looking for a gas powered pocket bike that looks like a sport bike and does not look stupidly small. i have about 200 dollars to spend on the bike not shipping so if you can help me out it would be greatly appreaciated.

craigslist.com

that’s your best bet…. even then i highly doubt you’ll be getting one for 200… (rolling frames alone go for 100-150… and that isnt’ even the most expensive part… the engine is)

sorry you’re not gonna find anything for 200… save up more money or find something else…

How to increase the efficiency of a 100 cc bike (No turbo charger/ or any other powered means to be used)?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: powered bike

how to increase the efficiency by suitably modifying the induction manifold and valve timing to improve the volumetric efficiency of an naturally aspirated Hero Honda engine.

I'm assuming it's a 4-stroke, So I'll throw these suggestions out there.
Efficiency…..K&N or UNI air filter…Proper tire inflation…Ensuring your lube points are lubed…exhaust system(free flowing)….I hope these help…

Does a female passenger, about 150lbs., on the back of a Harley really make a difference in the power/bike?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: powered bike

Is it really affected by adding those additional pounds to a well built bike such as a Harley that weighs 700-800 lbs. as far as the power of the bike??
I'm serious so please no more nasty, childish remarks.
BTW, I'm the passenger & have been told I make a hell of a backrest!!

An additional weight of 150lbs is a weight increase of about 20% on such a heavy bike and it is off course going to have an impact on the speed, center of gravity, air resistance etc. as well as other points such as headlamp beam will be too high, tire pressure needs adjustment, gas milage decrease etc.
How much is the 150 lbs going to affect acceleration and top speed? You will have to try this out for real - you will be surprized to see how little impact it really has - but if you are a HD lover like myself it is not about either of these factors.
I enjoy having company on my Softail.

If you feel the need for speed - do not buy a hog.

Fan-Powered Bicycle

Posted by: admin  :  Category: powered bike

Two large, heavy (50 lbs each) batteries were mounted on a bike to power a 1 horsepower electric motor scavenged from an old air compressor. The thing draws 20 amps at 24 volts. Don’t touch the bike frame with those leads! More to come.
